The causes of hypoacusis
Hearing can be affected by a wide range of factors.

Age
According to the statistics, in Spain more than 30% of the population over 65 years of age suffer from more or less serious hearing problems, which are among the most common problems of old age.

Noise
Noise is the number one cause of professional invalidity. The deafening soundtrack of everyday life is not only annoying it is harmful, and not only to hearing, but to the entire organism with serious consequences such as higher blood pressure, tachycardia, arrhythmia, heartburn, muscular tension, intestinal problems and more.

Hereditary
Around one third of hearing problems present since birth are due to hereditary factors, and one gene: connexina 26. If there are cases  of hypoacusis in the family, it is highly likely that it will be passed on to the children. If two hypoacusis sufferers marry, it is advisable for them to consult an audiologist or a geneticist: the doctor specialized in hereditary diseases.

Infections
Various sicknesses from bacteria and from viruses (scarlet fever, German measles, meningitis and other) can damage the ear and cause more or less serious hearing loss. Even otitis, a very common sickness especially in childhood, can cause permanent forms og hypoacusis if neglected.

Otosclerosis
the name given to a sickness affecting the mobility of the small bones of the middle ear. The vibrations transmitted to the inner ear no longer have the regularity of a healthy ear, hence hearing is weakened.

Medicines, alcohol, smoke
it has been proven that certain medicines can harm hearing, and are therefore defined as ototoxic, i.e. toxic for hearing. Even alcohol and smoke can damage hearing.
